 Started in 1955 by founder
and President Al Rizzo,
the Rizzo Pool Company
marks its 50th year in business this
year. In the tradition of successful
family-owned businesses, Rizzo started
small. Fueled by the owner’s
vision and determination, the company
has grown to become one of the
largest in its field, respected locally
and nationally as an industry leader.
Rizzo Pools traces its beginnings back to
a general construction company
founded by Albert Rizzo Sr. in 1929. At
the time of his father’s retirement in
1952, Albert Rizzo Jr. decided to go
into the construction business on his
own and continue the tradition started
by his father years earlier.
The company began as a small
operation in West Hartford, later
moving to its current location on the
Berlin Turnpike in Newington. This location
serves as company headquarters
today.
Rizzo began constructing in-ground
concrete pools at a time when the
pool industry was still in its infancy.
Rizzo Pool has been the leader and
innovator of all methods of in-ground
pools and decks. As pools grew in
popularity, Rizzo fulfilled the need for
aftermarket products and services.
As part of the industry growth, Rizzo
developed the first local in-house
training program for pool servicemen
and craftsmen. In the early 1970s,
Rizzo developed the first hands-on
pool service training school and co-authored
the first formal service
training manual. Rizzo is a co-author,
along with the committee (the Association of Pool and Spa
Professionals) of the “Residential Pool and
Spa Builders Reference Manual,”
considered throughout the world as
the industry “bible.”
In 1968, Rizzo formed and served as
the first president of the Connecticut
Swimming Pool Association and was a board member of the New England Swimming Pool Association. In 2005, he accepted the honor
again.
Rizzo is one of an elite group of International pool members of the Master Pool Builders Guild - a
group designated for the “Best of the Best” in the industry. Membership is by invitation only.
Rizzo has won more national and international awards than any other pool company in
Connecticut. Rizzo Pools have been featured in national and international consumer publications
and honored for their design excellence, technical superiority, and quality craftsmanship. Readers
of Hartford Magazine voted the company as 2005’s “Best Pool and Spa Company.”
The company’s motto is “Perfection is our Tradition,” and according to Rizzo, “Our commitment is
to make sure that every pool built by this company lives up to that tradition.”
